My Story
Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make, and in Fort McMurray it often comes with its own twists: shift work, camp schedules, self-employed income, and a housing market that doesn’t behave like anywhere else. That’s exactly why I do what I do.
I’m Charlene Elliott, a Mortgage Associate with Dominion Lending Centres Mortgage Mentors. I moved to Fort McMurray from Newfoundland in 1996, met my husband Leonard here, and stayed because I fell in love with him and with this community.
I got into mortgages because I could see this was something Fort McMurray really needed. Over the years I watched so many people around me (neighbours, friends, hardworking families) struggle to find someone who truly understood how life works up here. Rotations, overtime, camp jobs, contract and self-employed income: on paper, those things can look complicated to a big bank in a city far away. In real life, they’re just how Fort Mac works.
Too often I saw good people walk into one bank, get a quick “no” or a rate that didn’t fit, and walk away thinking homeownership wasn’t for them. I knew that wasn’t true. What they needed was someone local, someone who knew the community and could fight for them across many lenders, not just one.
So I decided to be that person. Since then, my goal has never changed: make the mortgage process simple, honest and personal for the people of this town. Through booms and slowdowns, fire and rebuilding, I’ve been proud to help families buy their first homes, move up, renew smarter and get back on their feet. Every file is a person, and every person deserves someone in their corner.
As a broker, I’m not tied to one bank. I explain everything in plain language, I answer my phone, and I stay with you long after closing day.

Family is everything to me. I have three amazing children and a beautiful granddaughter. When I’m not working, you’ll find me playing with my granddaughter, spending time with my kids, cooking and baking, walking the dogs, and entertaining at home.

December to Remember
In December 2025 I was proud to be part of December to Remember, a Christmas event in Fort McMurray with All Nations Church that helps local families over the holidays. The 2025 event served 69 families. It was a beautiful reminder of how generous this community is.
